    Great product poor packaging
This is second thermometer I’ve received this week which was broken. They get jammed into a prime box corner to corner, likely broken when packaged. I still need one so may have to buy elsewhere.

Began to respond erratically on second of nine tests for science fair and broke when we stopped test
My eighth-grade son is doing two different science fair projects and needed a scientific thermometer. As he was conducting the second of what was supposed to be nine tests, I noticed that the liquid inside the thermometer began to look weird. The temperature had only reached 25 degrees, but the line began to appear like dashes instead of a straight line. I knew that this was a problem and we stopped the test.Upon picking up the thermometer from the top, it broke. If you look at the picture I’ve attached, it looks like it had begun weakening at the 10 degree mark. The beginning temperature was actually 20 degrees; the weak spot is at 10 degrees; and the liquid fill inside continued to climb even after it broke. Obviously, the good thing is that it did not shatter into a bunch of shards nor did it spill anything toxic (like when mercury used to be used for these things). The organic fill didn’t spill out, either. It was inexpensive, but buyer beware that yes, it’s an inexpensive thermometer and therefore, one that you may want if you don’t want to shell out a lot of money for one of these. But you may run into the same problem I did.

    Large Percent Error in Indication
I bought two of the Celsius scale thermometers. Even though they serve my general purpose they are highly inaccurate. One has a 12% error and the other has a 9% error. This is much too wide for distillation processes. If you are distilling substances with bp’s that close, you may have a challenge drawing a distillation curve.

    Work great
You cannot really write a negative review of this product as an everyday human. I bought 2 and used them for Meteorology labs in college. These are glass; if you drop one it will break.

Hope you don’t get a bubble
I’ve bought 2 of these. One had a bubble in it. Which the company claims is no big deal. Just heat it up till it maxes out. Then let it cool. Bubble is gone. What they don’t tell you is that you’re gonna have to do this every time you wanna use it, which is a pain in the arse. The second one I got had no bubble, and worked perfectly. So for $10 it’s worth getting a couple. You’ll probably break one eventually anyways.

    just what i wanted
I use it to culture Kombucha, you have to culture at lower temp to keep it from getting so acid you cant drink it. I made a hanger for it on the side of a 2.5 gallon spigot jar real convenient. I also got the 2.0 to 9.0 colorPHast strips to know when to drain and refrigerate to keep it drinkable. the strips are at the good Kombucha range in 0.5 PH increments, easy to read and use too. and a real good bargain price. high quality laboratory strips
