Great replacement option for regular dyes
I enjoy these as a replacement of regular color dyes. The bottle sizes are about average, and value is fair for money. After all, anything better for us is going to be twice the price. When used for baking the colors run lighter, if you want a darker color then more drops will have to be added. Overall, happy this is an option for colorful desserts.

Great alternative, but VERY different coloring
I was looking for a better alternative to the regular food dye in the stores and came across this. I knew ahead of time that the colors were very light, so I’m okay with it. But if you are looking for bright, vibrant color, this is not the product for you!

    I liked these
These colors are actually really great! They come out as a more “pastel” color. As you can se on the cake photos the very red flowers are done with the regular red dye and the lighter red flowers (and all of the other details) are done with the watkins colors. They mix in very well to butter creams as well as icing. I have baked with these as well and since they are natural, most of the color tends to bake out by the time the cake is done. I made red velvet cake with these once and it turned out just a slightly reddish brown. If you use a lot of the blue or green, I do notice a slight taste, but if you have ever used spirulina, then you know it does have a bit of a taste. The texture of these are a bit more gel-like, but not as solid as gel colors, and it is pretty easy to mix up the color that you are trying to achieve. Overall I would recommend these is you are trying to avoid the regular FD&C dyes.

    Less pigment but better ingredients
Does the trick. I was looking for a simpler ingredient dye since I have a child with peanut allergies that seems to be extra sensitive to certain things in food dye. Not as pigmented as others but works

Great in Theory, But it Doesn’t Work
I love that these dyes are natural! I just wish they worked better. You could easily use half a bottle of dye and still have a very pale color. I tried making orange by combining the red and yellow today, and after using what felt like an excessive amount of the dye, I ended up with a pretty drab beige color for my frosting. What’s extra weird is that after sitting for a few hours that drab beige turned into almost fluorescent yellow (I think because of the turmeric?). I was aiming for pumpkin orange, so this was not ideal… I would not recommend these dyes. However, if you’re super desperate and absolutely not willing to use regular food dyes…I guess give them a shot? Just prepare to use excessive amounts to receive any type of actual color…

This is good I wish they would put the colour mixtures on the back of the box. I had to google it when I was mixing the colours. It’s a little expensive aswell. My son wanted to make slime and I wasn’t going to the grocery store just to get the stuff to make slime. I didn’t find there was a flavour to it either. They are easy to use as long as you are using just the one colour and not mixing them together. I found the yellow was super thick aswell and almost seemed like jelly.

I’m excited to try this stuff out. Hopefully it’s as bright as the color that spilt all over the box. When I got it, yellow was everywhere… and it’s not eligible for re place ment or re turn.
