Nice hardwired, photoelectric alarm
This is a hardwired First Alert SMCO100V-AC with the interconnect option. It has a battery backup. Be aware that in order to use the interconnect feature, your home has to be pre-wired with the extra line that would connect together your other smoke detectors. This is a photoelectric alarm with CO monitor. It doesn’t have a secondary ionization monitoring feature. This makes it good for smoke but not as good for flames. Why they don’t include both is a mystery. NOTE: alarms that have ionization monitoring can’t be returned because they contain radioactive material. If your home isn’t pre-wired and you want your alarms to be interconnected, you’ll need wireless alarms. Near as I can tell, there are no wireless alarms that are also hard wired – battery only. This model, at least, meets the latest standards according to First Alert.

Reliable and looks great!
Easy to install, fits perfectly into our 20 yr old first alert bracket without needing to replace (we did anyway as the older bracket color washed out). Interconnect is simple, and the hardwire provides piece of mind to not worry about battery life. In case there is outage, there is AA duracel provided battery as backup. The newer model (2025) also looks more modern than the ones I and from 20 years ago.The voice prompt wasn’t what I was expecting. Thinking for the room that detected smoke, all units will sound that room. Instead, I find selecting the rest button, only the rest unit will voice while the rest of the interconnected models just beeps. Also my own research aligns this as one of the better brands and model to buy. Do note that photoelectric is what I chosen due to what appears to be better realiabllity for safety.

Too many false alarms
I bought 6 of these smoke and CO2 detectors earlier this year to replace similar First Alert smoke detectors that were only a year old. I replaced the 1-year old detectors because of false alarms. I replaced the replacements because of frequent false alarms. I consulted with an electrician both times and our alarm service. They found nothing wrong with our wiring and recommended replacing the detectors. The false alarms sometimes occurred at midnight and the last time, at 2 AM when we were away on vacation, leaving two very terrorized cats here with the blaring alarm. Fortunately we were able to silence the alarm remotely based on the assumption it was a false alarm. OMG! It’s just too much!

Great Upgrade — Replaced All My Older Smoke & CO Detectors
I installed these on November 13 to replace all of my older smoke and CO detectors, and the upgrade has been great so far. The installation was straightforward — the wiring harness matched perfectly with my existing setup, and each unit locked into place securely. Once everything was connected, the detectors synced with each other without any issues. The alerts are loud and clear, and the test function works exactly as expected. I like that the units interconnect, so if one goes off, all of them sound — a big safety improvement compared to my previous setup. The built-in carbon monoxide detection is another major plus, since it allowed me to replace two separate devices with a single combined alarm. The overall build quality feels solid, and the design sits flush and clean on the ceiling. These are the kind of items you hope never have to activate, but having newer sensors and a more reliable system definitely gives peace of mind.So far, everything has worked as it should, and I’m very happy with the upgrade.

Very loud!
Happy to have a new, current smoke detectors, but these things are crazy loud. Like if they actually go off I’m gonna be freaking out at the noise and not be able to think properly. Seems like they should have some sort of volume control for a high and a low because wowza.

A nice replacement for an old First Alarm that reached its end of life
In 2 minutes, I swapped out the old First Alarm smoke and CO defector with this one. I like the voice alarm too.

Works well
