Works well for safety and peace of mind!
Easy to install, fits perfectly into our 20 yr old first alert bracket without needing to replace (we did anyway as the older bracket color washed out). Interconnect is simple, and the hardwire provides piece of mind to not worry about battery life. In case there is outage, there is AA duracel provided battery as backup. The newer model (2025) also looks more modern than the ones I and from 20 years ago.The voice prompt wasn’t what I was expecting. Thinking for the room that detected smoke, all units will sound that room. Instead, I find selecting the rest button, only the rest unit will voice while the rest of the interconnected models just beeps.Also my own research aligns this as one of the better brands and model to buy. Do note that photoelectric is what I chosen due to what appears to be better realiabllity for safety.

Great replacement for old ones
Replaced my old fire alarms. Pretty easy to install. Bought the connector adapters to make the replacement easier. Looked through pro reviews and these were well rated.

A generally good smoke alarm, mostly
These are a replacement/upgrade to alarms in my home which are AC powered and interconnected.The alarms install easily. Rotate the old alarm to remove it from the ceiling face plate, disconnect the quick-connect plug, attach the quick-connect plug to the new alarm, and rotate the new alarm into place. Note that you need to use a screwdriver to unlock the plug from the old alarm. I changed 4 alarms in less than one hour.The alarms operate the same as the alarms that were replaced. Flashing LEDs and beeps or chirps indicate an abnormal situation.These new alarms add voice messages. Each alarm can be given a location name, such as “hallway” or “master bedroom”. The location is announced with a voice message so you can more easily know which alarm is activated. Possible messages are “Warning, evacuate, smoke in hallway” or “Replace battery in master bedroom”.Each voice message is supposed to be sent to every interconnected alarm. However, when testing, the message ” Testing, evacuate, smoke in hallway” was NOT heard on the other alarms. I called First Alert about this and was told that test messages are not propagated, but actual alarms will be heard throughout the house. Since this partially defeats the test, this is a serious flaw in the alarm design.I like that these alarms use 2 AA batteries rather than the 9-volt batteries in older alarms. In an AC-powered installation, these are backup batteries that power the alarm only when AC power is lost, so it is possible to use AA batteries with a 10-year life to match the alarm, eliminating the need to change batteries. I used AA lithium batteries which have a shelf life much longer than 10 years.I think the instructions could be clearer and better organized.

Great quality and value!!
Wired up easy and was the best price I could find. Loud and able to program which room it is in so if the bedroom alarm detects it can relay across all to say where the trigger is occurring! I added these to a system of two carbon monoxide detectors and they function great together! Hard wired in so the batteries last forever!

New First Alert smoke detectors
These fit perfectly on my existing smoke detectors mounting bracket and the power cord was exactly the same. Was seedless to upgrade my existing units to these new smoke detectors.

Random alarming in the middle of the night.
I purchased 6 of the SM100V and two of the SMCO100 detectors last year. Half of them are randomly alarming, usually in the middle of the night which is quite jarring. I don’t smoke and it’s not dusty. I’ve swapped them between rooms and the problem follows the detector. The only warranty support First Alert provides is a 1-800 number with a 2-hour wait time, only to be told to vacuum them and that there is nothing wrong with them. I’m about to throw them all in the trash and buy another brand.The voice announcement of which room is useless. If they actually do announce which room, they’re all going off at the same time, speaking out of sync so you can’t understand them. It’s faster to walk around and see which one had the red light on.

Good replacement smoke detectors
Quickly replaced my old first alert wired smoke alarms. Took just a few minutes to install. The voice alert was easy to program, and I really like that these use AA batteries instead of 9 volts.
