Safety
Being a former fire fighter and working fire safety I take my home safety very seriously. Having worked with this brand in the past I trust their products. Easy to install and knowing I don’t have to change the battery twice a year makes for a sound piece of mind.

A nicely upgraded replacement unit
Just what I needed to replace my 10 year old sensors. The wires r adapter supplied made the job easy. No great skill required.

Nice unit, but delivered with outdated batteries
Bought these to replace an older “flakey” unit, a First Alert model # 3120B, from 2019. This one is apparently a newer model (SM300-AC). Same form, fit, and dual sensor function. It uses the same mounting base, and wiring connector. It does have a few added features, which hopefully will be nice.BUT it came with 2 outdated AA batteries (Aug 2025 date on battery, delivered Dec 2025) … what the heck?!!

Work as designed
Work as advertized. I had to rewire using the new included connector, because my old detectors were of a different make and 30 years old. These communicate and all sound off if any of them detect smoke. The one that detected smoke indicates red.

Great detector with two types of technology and a 10-year battery.
We enjoy the peace of mind that having dual-function smoke alarms provides. This alarm does both photoelectric AND ionization detection. One is better for slow, smoky fires and the other for faster hot fires. I don’t remember which is which, but Google it and remind yourself. This alarm doesn’t do carbon monoxide or other gas detection, but we have a separate alarm for that. Finally, possibly the best part, this has a ten-year battery. With regular detectors, you have to change the battery from time to time AND you have to keep track of when you put the thing up (because the detectors all have a ten-year life, even if you regularly replace the battery). So, rather than try to remember when we put up the detector, we just wait for the thing to beep (if we even live here in 10 years) and replace the whole thing at once. It’s great.

Wasted $70
Arrived Jul 3, 2025. I installed it within a couple weeks. So it’s been in service about 3 months. It is far too sensitive. The toaster about 20 feet from the smoke alarm sometimes sets it off. Sometimes it goes off for no apparent reason. I paid about $70 for this name brand smoke detector that was supposed to be less susceptible to false alarms. It’s no better than the under $20 no-name Chinese smoke detectors I’ve used before. It has a permanent 10 year battery which can’t be changed. These overly sensitive smoke detectors are dangerous. Like the check engine light on a car, we learn to ignore it instead of considering it a serious warning. Going to the land fill.

A pain to install correctly on a wall due to incorrect instructions.
This might be great at doing its job, and I certainly hope it is. But it was confusing to install. The paper guide is written in a very tiny font, and it gives incorrect installation instructions. To have the top of the alarm be pointed upward, the instructions say to mount the bracket with the holes at 3 and 9 o’clock. That doesn’t work when twisting the alarm on and into place. I also learned the hard way that the alarm cannot be easily removed from the plate. I did a test fit before mounting the plate to the wall, and then the alarm would not come back off from the plate. I hadn’t expected this, and the battery lock-out strip of plastic was stuck in between the plate and the alarm, with no way to reach it. This was rather frustrating, given how simple it should have been to install.

Very pleased after installing 7
installed 7 in place of a bunch of firex units that were falsing. If you buy one at a time, they come with an adapter to plug right into firex connectors. if you buy the 6-pack, there’s no adapter. Worked without a hitch, no falsing. We chose these because they had both photo and ion sensors and have a reputation of being a slightly higher quality device with less falsing.
