Great quality and easy to install…
So easy to install, now just hoping we don’t get any false alarms like all our “wired” ones were doing within a year of moving into a new home! I disconnected all of them and replaced with these. Just to clarify, I left the old ones hung in their positions on the ceiling but not activated via wire or batteries and installed these on the walls in the same general area. I’m sure I’ll be a happy camper for the next 10 years!

Good UL listed Smoke detector! I made a mark to help line up how it installs on the base.
We have never had smoke detectors in this house that we have lived in since 2013. A close call with my dog turning on my stove signaled that it was time to take safety a little more seriously. So we got child locks for the stove and this alarm. It’s a start and we are not finished. I installed it today. From the perspective of someone who has never installed a smoke alarm, here’s some stuff you should know. There is a way to completely disable the alarm by taking the alarm down and pulling a tool from under the sticker and putting it in a hole that is also under the sticker. I made sure to show that to the adults here in case it ever malfunctions. Just know that if it is disabled with that method, it will be disabled permanently. The detector is “on” and armed just by being installed. A green light will blink every 40 seconds. To test the alarm, press and hold the center button for a whole second or longer. I used a broomstick for that because I did not want to be close to the noise. My Apple Watch said that the “environment is over 90 decibels” when I tested it and I was 8 feet away from the speaker. My ears are still ringing 30 minutes later, so next time I’ll use ear plugs, for sure. The last part is the most important. My husband couldn’t line it up with the base standing under it. It can fit only one way. There are symbols on the base that correspond to the two different speakers, but they are pretty faint and hard to see with cataracts, so I lined it up and made a line with a sharpie and an arrow for which way to turn it. When it’s fully seated, there is an audible click. It feels seated but it won’t be before the extra click. He thought it was broken until I turned it more. Then we really thought it was broken when we pressed the button and nothing happened. Remember to hold the button down for more than one second to make it go and also to make it stop. The traditional armor piercing screech is there, but also a lady’s voice saying fire, etc. She also says it in French!Maybe other people know all these things, but in case you are a newbie like me, I thought I’d write that out for you. It’s installed, it works, it won’t have to be changed or have batteries changed for 10 years, it’s UL listed (so many things on Amazon are not, so that’s a big plus!) and it’s easy to operate if you read the instructions. Also it matches our light yellow beige ceiling pretty much perfectly! I may just get more of these same ones so we know they all operate the same way. These are not inexpensive, but I like the build quality.

Solid quality-built smoke detector, 10-year battery BIG plus
There’s nothing more annoying than starting to hear the ‘chirping’ sound from your smoke detectors, and then fumbling around the house to find that 9-volt battery, which, at least in my case, never seems to be on hand. Not a problem with this smoke alarm detector with a 10-year battery. This detector is a solid, quality-built alarm. We registered it at 90 decibels from about 5 to 6 feet away, so it is loud. It is more of an off-white color, not pristine white. For some, that might be an issue, though it wasn’t for us. Installation was about 10 minutes for us, and the included instruction manual basically leaves you with no questions. We had some small screws that fit already on hand, but were surprised to see that there were none included in the packaging. For testing the detector, press the center button for two seconds. It has a 10-year battery, but I would still recommend making a point to test it once a year just to make sure all is good.

Don’t need to worry about changing the battery
I like that this smoke alarm detector has a sealed battery that should last 10 years. No more having to worry about changing the battery from time to time. It was straight forward to install but I do want to note that I was a bit surprised that it didn’t come with the screws needed to install it on the ceiling. Most of us probably already have the necessary screws laying around the house but this is the first time I have come across a detector that didn’t come with screws. So was a bit surprised by that and I looked a second time inside the box to make sure that I didn’t misplace it but I didn’t see any screws.

Loud alarm with 10-year battery. Be aware that it is NOT white, in case that matters to you.
The alarm came nicely packaged and with clear instructions. Installing the alarm on the mount pushes in a button on the bottom that activates it, i.e. turns on the battery. I measured the alarm at a little over 90 decibels from about three feet away, so it meets the specs stated in the product listing. Note that the alarm is not white, as seen in the product photos, but rather a yellow-tinted off-white. In my photo, you can see it on top of the white instruction sheet to get an idea of the color. That’s not as issue for me, but I wish the product photos gave a better indication of its true color.Having a 10-year battery is so much better and easier than having to replace a 9-volt battery a couple of times a year. It mounts and dismounts easily from the mounting plate. I found a 3-pack of similar alarms on Amazon from another manufacturer at just a few dollars over the cost of this single unit. I also found some single units with similar features that were around $20, so this is one of the pricier options. However, some of those got poor or mixed reviews, so do your own research. I like that this one has a light that flashes green about every forty seconds to let you know it’s powered up. Of course, it also beeps when the battery gets low, but it allows you to silence that chirping if you need to (like it’s time for bed and you hear it chirping but don’t want to replace the battery or turn it off before going to bed).Bottom line – nice features, loud alarm, 10-year battery, a little pricey but perhaps better than some of the cheaper options.
