well-designed detectors, well worth upgrading
I haven’t had these for long, but I’m impressed so far. I replaced five of my smoke and smoke/CO detectors because my 6-year-old Firex units kept chirping for no reason, even with fresh batteries. I decided to stop messing with them and swap them all out for these. Installation was straightforward—I rewired them with the new harness since the plug was different and got them all mounted. When I turned the power on, they all started beeping. Walking around, I noticed the power light was off on all but one unit. Only one had the green light on. I powered down, checked the wiring, and found the white wire had slipped out of the screw cap on the working unit. After fixing it and powering back up, everything worked perfectly. I like that it alerted me to a wiring issue. The wire must have popped out when I pushed the cap back into the box. All good and secure now. My favorite feature is the 10-year built-in battery, especially since I travel often and lose AC power regularly. Not having to change batteries is a huge plus. These are solid units—well-designed, easy to install, and smart enough to detect when something’s wrong. Five stars.UPDATE 11/25:After a year of use with NO false alarms and no chirping at 2:00am, going away for months at a time, these have worked out great for me. Worth the upgrade!

Great for a set of new or replacement Smoke Detectors
I installed this smoke detector with ease as everything came provided in the box. I simply removed the previous template on the ceiling and then installed the one that came with this set. Wiring was easy as it was already color coded (red, black, white). The lifespan lasts 10 years with the built-in lithium battery. Sound level was pretty loud during the test I performed. The size of the smoke detector is typical 6″ diameter you find with this and other brands. I have not tested it with actual smoke but one day I’ll update this review of it happens.

Very fast replacement
We have a 10-year old house and all of our smoke detectors stopped working pretty much around the same time so we assumed they reached the warranty life limit. We ordered 4 packs altogether to replace them all. Unfortunately one of the four was not working. We contacted the customer services and they were very helpful to quickly place a replacement order for us. Very easy installation.

DON’T BUY- Frequent False Alarms
We purchased these in March of 2025 based on the reviews. We liked the fact that we felt it was an upgrade from having to change batteries periodically. However, a month after installing them, we started having false alarms. It started with one of them repeatedly beeping 3 times in the middle of the night. The first one that started doing this was in my 4 year olds bedroom. This cause him to wake up crying and was preventing the whole house from sleeping. After trying to troubleshoot the best we could with no clear directions- we were forced to remove the smoke detector and place it in a different room so our son could fall back asleep. By the next morning, it had resolved itself. Fast forward two months and we had the same issue but this time it was in our daughter’s room and of course it happened in the middle of the night. We repeated the same procedure and were again forced to remove it for the night. Fast forward 3 months and it’s the same issue. Only this one was on the opposite side of the house.Since we purchased this product in March of 25’, I decided to call Amazon customer support at 11:15pm when we were woken up for the 3rd false alarm. They informed me we were outside of the return window (which I knew) and told me I had to contact the manufacturer customer support- which was fine. Amazon gave me the manufacturer support phone number and said they’re open 24/7 and to call them. They would help navigate this problem. I no sooner hung up with Amazon and attempted to call Kidde customer support.Hoping someone would answer to help with this issue, I quickly found out they have normal east coast business hours. After doing a little online research, I found out this is actually a common issue for Kidde products. They regularly have false alarms, issues with sensitivity, etc. Since they are hardwired with 10-year battery backup, it put me and my wife at ease thinking we made the right choice to protect our family. That couldn’t be further from the truth. With them being faulty, especially at the most inconvenient times (children sleeping) we have come to the conclusion that we made a mistake buying from the company. We purchase this product in hopes that it would keep out family protected and safe. Only for it to cause a headache and cause trauma for our young children. DON’T BUY! If I could leave zero stars I would.
